Aviation Cyclery
Aviation Cyclery – A classic South Bay bike shop exits...
The store, located at 1075 N Aviation Blvd., Manhattan Beach, CA, changed hands several times before closing 54 years later on October 31, 2017.
Dick Taylor opened Aviation Cyclery in 1963, after working at Phil's Bike Shop in Hawthorne, CA. The store was located at 1075 N. Aviation blvd in Manhattan Beach, CA. Our friend Randall served as a mechanic there until it changed hands in the early 1980s. The store was liquidated and saved by Carl, who also owned Beach Cities Cyclery in Hermosa Beach. It was managed by Russel. Eventually Carl retired to Australia and the store was again sold to Toni. She ran the store for several years with her mechanic Hugo before selling it to Izzy. The store closed after 54 years on October 31, 2017.
Hugo Vazquez, who managed the store in its last decade, moved out of state and can be reached at [email protected]. Here's a couple videos from 2010 and 2012.
Hermosa Cyclery
We purchased Aviation Cyclery's remaining merchandise, but their 5 decades of service is for the history books. "I remember Aviation Cyclery as a kid in the 70's. They were a pillar of the bike community since forever and I'm sorry to see them go." said Hermosa Cyclery partner Steve Collins. Our store is owned and operated by four partners that worked at Hermosa Cyclery as teens in the 70s and 80s (below from left: Ken, Mark, Larry and Steve). We're near The Strand behind Good Stuff in Hermosa Beach. Contact Us
